Just a quick post. My Son, Kolya, is 12. He’s really been enjoying using our wood lathe and has made several nice candlesticks on it.
So yesterday I told him he should make a holder for the lathe tools. We’ve got a half dozen turning tools, and they are constantly rolling around on the stand, always on the verge of falling off. Annoying. The holder is a simple deal, but he had to lay out the size, cross cut a piece of pine to length, rip it to width and plane the edges square. I helped him lay out the locations of the holes, which he drilled with a bit and brace — including back drilling the holes to avoid blowing out the backside (always popular with middle school kids). Then he sanded it and we attached it to our el-cheapo lathe.
Nice work buddy!
